VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMME OF THE AUTHOR FILM FESTIVAL
SUBTITLES
Igor Milovanović
November, 27th – December, 3rd, 2010.
At the time where impressive number of the world renowned visual artists started to articulate their artistic practice in the field of the contemporary cinematography as well and vice versa, links between the movies and contemporary art productions are more complex, strengthening and intertwining. That produces exciting artistic scene as almost dominant contemporary visual arts discourse in the world today.
Reacting to this practice, parallel Visual Arts Programme of the Author Film Festival, Belgrade, brings together cinematography, achievements of the Film Festival itself and contemporary visual art production at the joint platform and in a multimedia context. In order to present visual art work with the particular art sensibility that includes active participatory role of the public, parallel Visual Arts Programme is aimed at the development of the interactive, multidisciplinary projects, encouragement of the expression of the collective and individual critical awareness and attitudes and demonstration of the cross sector collaboration.
Project “Subtitles” by Igor Milovanović is based on the recent tragic events that took the place in Belgrade. At the symbolically key locations in the city, where those tragic events took place – murders of the political and sport opponents, journalists, places of violence, demonstrated intolerance – author initiates mechanisms of the interpretation and critical thought articulations, through the projections of screen noises, that is blank fields signifying the end of the media signal or the end of the movie tapes, with subtitles from the movies, presented at the Film Festival. With an intention to activate personal initiative of every citizen who walks through the projected “movie screen”, author reacts on urgent social problems, brutality, violence, reinvestigating the level of the collective and individual responsibility as well.
Project reminds us that for the most part collective and public memory and judgments are different from the personal memory and that experience can have lots of different forms, always in service of some particular interest. Therefore is necessary to critically reexamine the way how we remember events and how we commemorate them.
If in a society still exists a need for debates on an elementary categories of right and wrong, this project reaffirms as well elementary social value system.
Project is supported by the Fund for an Open Society, Serbia.
Project is supported by the Cultural Center Belgrade, Children Cultural Center and French Cultural Institute, Belgrade.

PUBLIC SIGNAL STATIONS AT THE 51. OCTOBER SALON
The building of the former Military Academy, Resavska Street, 40b
The importance of the active public at the contemporary visual arts scene
The expression “active public” is nowadays flexibly used to indicate different forms of audience participation in the field of the contemporary visual art production. In this process participatory role of the audience is not understood in the context of the direct participation in the artistic production itself, but as a legitimate outcome per se, defining time, social and public dimension of the artistic works.
Transformative potential particular for the contemporary visual arts culture, alters the role of the public from the static and passive observer towards the active participant and therefore active citizen.
Organization “Anonymous said:” turns the attention to the crucial importance of the audience, with three parallel educational programmes and to different aspects of audience development through the programmes: “Family Zone”, “Intergenerational dialogue” and “Artist about Artist”.
The concept of three programmes is placed in the “station” atmosphere, places where we stop to rest, meet “other passengers”, refresh during the journey, exploring procedures, forms and consequences of the contemporary visual art production, raising the questions on reception and humanistic insight in processes in the world and in the individual personality.

ARTIST AS AUDIENCE
Series of twelve conversations
In cooperation with Mirjana Boba Stojadinovic, «Anonymous said:» organizes series of conversations on contemporary art production in the Cultural Center REX in the time period from April until July 2010.
The conversations are intended to start the research of the artist-art-institution-public field in the time frame of 2000 - 2010 in Serbia, and Belgrade in particular. They serve as a case study of the state of art and its reception. These conversations will allow identification some of the crucial issues in visual art in Serbia from the previous decade in a public discourse. Through an open discussion we wish to emphasize the necessity to argue the value and meaning the individual, within the general, audience gains from the art works, but also the ways the work is conveyed in public and mis/represented. We hope these carefully prepared conversations will allow the audience to focus on the presence (or perhaps absence) of visual art in the public domain and together to come up with examples, problems, questions, concerns of the contemporary visual art production in Serbia and cultural development in general.
The choice of the artists is based upon their extensive production of provocative and thought-through works and exposure to the audience (some of the most exhibited authors on the scene), the “official” selection of authors (national “representatives” on international manifestations, state institutions, artist who have had retrospectives, etc.), artists recognized internationally, in local gallery system, as well as a selection of some not so prominent, yet just as excellent works, whose choice is based upon different criteria that are of importance to the audience (e.g. the importance of the medium, striking the ‘underground’ culture, questioning the art system).
The project “Artist as Audience” takes upon a series of twelve conversations with the audience on the works of following artists: Saša Rakezić Zograf, comics author, journalist (21.04.2010); Nikoleta Marković, visual artist/activist (07.05.2010); Zoran Todorović, visual artist (28.05.2010); Igor Milovanović, designer (08.06.2010); Vesna Golubović, painter (22.06.2010); Miloš Tomić, visual artist designer (05.07.2010); Boris Šribar, sculptor; Mrđan Bajić, sculptor; Lana Vasiljević, visual artist/designer; Dušan Otašević, visual artist; Zoran Naskovski, visual/video artist; Dragana Ognjenović / Ana Ljubinković, artists and fashion designers.
The second series of six conversations will take place from September until December 2010.
The project is intended for the general audience as well as the professional public, especially students from all art academies, students of philosophy, art history, sociology, accomplished young experts from these areas, professional artists, theoreticians, critics, art historians. The conversations use common language and the topics are approached in such manner as not to give advantage to professional expression of thoughts and attitudes, though all opinions are welcome. .
Entrance is free and on our web site preparatory texts for each conversation are available in pdf format.

RE:CONSTRUTION
Ten years of the Swiss Cultural Program in Serbia
Scaffoldings GRAD, European Center for Culture and Debate, Braće Krsmanović 4 5. November, 15h
5 – 8. november, 2009, Belgrade
The closure of the Swiss Cultural Program in Serbia Office was planned for the end of the year 2009. However, this fact did not imply discontinuation of the further support by the Swiss Cultural Program at the Western Balkans to the local art scenes and artists, more an orientation towards the regional cooperation. Specially designed program celebrating ten year of the Swiss Cultural Program in Belgrade has an aim to remind, that is to RE:CONSTRUCT significant contemporary art productions and achievements, supported by the Program, who invested in contemporary art trends and innovative art scene in Serbia based on the existence of the clear criteria, mechanisms and procedures.
