The aim of these publications is to present and clarify the procedures and the results of the annual Contest of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and Expert Committees who are reviewing submitted applications and to comprehend the criteria set up by the Ministry and the Expert Committees and in that way to improve the application procedure for the Open Contest. Publications present activities of the Ministry of Culture as an administrative body and as a part of the Government, for the purpose of transparency of proceedings, criteria and projects’ financing processes.

Publications contain examples of good practice in order to present the criteria of selection for the projects that are to be financed, as well as the efforts of the Ministry of Culture directed towards the improvement of the artistic, cultural and social system of our country. The editor of these publications and the author of the introductory texts is Dimitrije Tadić, Counselor for the contemporary visual art, cultural industry and cultural relations of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. Texts by art historians Jasmina Čubrilo (Mapping of contemporary art trends in Serbia) and Maida Gruden and Mara Prohaska-Marković (Dislocations: the potentials of art colonies in Serbia) offer wider context necessary for comprehension of the results and functioning system of the contemporary visual art production in Serbia.  

After six years of continuing existence of the Open Contest for Visual Arts and Multimedia and seven years of existence of the Open Contest for Art Colonies, publications present and at the same time question their effects and their range within the efforts leading towards the improvement of the development of contemporary art production in these fields.
